Kids at Thien An learning to play the mandoline.
With the arrival of a new nun at Thien An, Soeur Khanh, we are blessed now to have a talented music teacher at Thien An. Soeur Khanh has been assigned by Soeur Madeleine from Danang, who is in charge of all the nuns from Saint Paul de Chartres in the south of Vietnam, to help run the boarding school / orphanage Thien An for the next few years.
When I met her in July she asked me for 30 mandolines to teach the kids music. Since in the Jai Rai culture music plays an important role, I thought it was an excellent idea. And it turned out to be a great success. In the past 2 weeks , the kids have been studying notes and soon they will play the first songs. They can practice the whole day without losing concentration, which can’t be said when they follow normal classes. Live and Give has donated 825 USD to buy the 30 music instruments including protective covers. Twenty pieces are delivered already, the other 10 will be finished this week. We thank all sponsors for making this happen!
