Picnic between paddy fields
Two days after arrival Jan and I spontaneously arranged a picnic with a campfire for the kids at the location where we are building our boarding school.
After schooltime at a saturday afternoon the 300 kids were picked up in a small van from the monastry. The van was not meant to transport kids but the Vietnamese are not spoiled. Although it was a hot day the kids could still laugh at arrival. To spend the time until everybody arrived the kids were entertained with social games by priests.
Dinnertime: The kids ate in groups each headed by an elder student. After dinner everybody knew its task and helped with cleaning.
We arranged for the kids 3 huge roasted porcs. Rice and noodles had been prepared before at the monastry. After dinner each kid got a bag of goodies. All together it costed 800 dollar for 300 kids and numerous helpers, nuns and priests.
At nighttime the kids dansed and sang around the campfire. There were lots of spontaneous shows from the kids. The vietnamese really know how to party so their are a grateful crowd to organise for.
The nuns did great work by organising such a big event in only one day!
